Email Down Time.... Hire Us.
According to the eWeek website, email works like this: If, for some
reason, the mail server at somecompany.com cannot connect with the mail
server at yourcompany.com, then the message is rejected and a failure
report is sent to the person who sent the original email. The email server
(like Exchange, Notes, or Sendmail) uses a program called message transfer
program (MTA) to do the actual sending, so this queue is called the MTA queue.
The MTA will periodically try to resend the messages in its queue. For example,
it might retry every 10 minutes. After four hours, it will usually send you a
piece of mail that tells you there is some sort of problem. After 24 hours, the
message is deleted and can not be recovered. 24 hours… that's it. That's the
complete life cycle of 91% of all undelivered mail. That means if for any
reason your mail server is offline for 24 hours, any mail that was intended to
be delivered in that time will begin to be deleted and you will never
know.
